Paul McCartney : pour ne rien manquer de « Kisses On the Bottom »

L’histoire de cet album

Le titre de ce nouvel album de Paul McCartney, « Kisses On The Bottom » est en fait une phrase utilisée dans le titre ouvrant l’album "I’m Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter, tube de Fats Waller, publié en 1935. Enregistré dans les studios Capitol de Londres, Los Angeles, et New York, cet album est décrit par Paul McCartney de la façon suivante « J’ai travaillé avec Diana Krall, et le grand musicien de jazz John Clayton. Cet album est extrêmemnt tendre, et surtout très intime. C’est un album que l’on peut écouter à la maison, après le travail, avec un bon verre de vin ou un tasse de thé. »

Pour produire cet album, Paul McCartney a fait appel aux services de Tommy LiPuma, qui a de par le passé travaillé avec Miles Davis, et Barbara Streisand.

Outre ce producteur de renom, Paul McCartney a aussi fait appel aux services d’Eric Clapton, qui joue de la guitare sur le premier single extrait de l’album, « My Valentine ». Stevie Wonder a aussi collaboré à cet album, en jouant sur le titre « Only Our Hearts ».

D’une durée totale de 56min 39 sec, ce nouvel album de Paul sera distribué par le label Hear Music. L’album « Kisses on the Bottom » de Paul McCartney sera disponible en trois versions différentes :

La version Deluxe

Concernant tout d’abord « Baby’s Request » il semble qu’il s’agisse de la version initialement interprétée par Paul McCartney et les Wings, en 1979 sur l’album « Back To The Egg ». A ce jour, aucune information supplémentaire ne nous est parvenue, et impossible de savoir si il s’agira de la version de 1979, ou d’une version spécialement enregistrée pour « Kisses On The Bottom ».

Concernant « My One and Only Love », cette chanson fait partie des grands standard américains. Ecrire par Robert Mellin, elle a vue sa musique composée par Guy Wood. Publiée en 1952, elle a été enregistrée le 2 Mai 1953 par Frank Sinatra, et publiée par le label Capitol, sous forme d’un EP 4 titres, mais aussi en 45 Tours et 78 tours. Elle a aussi fait l’objet d’une réédition sur la compilation « Nice ’n’ Easy » de Sinatra, et d’une reprise par Sting.

La version LP

L’album « Kisses On the Bottom » sera disponible sous la forme de deux disques 33 Tours de 180 grammes. Cette édition ne comportera pas les deux chansons inédites. Par contre les acheteurs de cette version pourront accéder, sans supplément de prix, à la plateforme de téléchargement officielle, leur permettant de télécharger les 14 titres de l’labum en MP3, Apple Lossless ou Flac. Sera aussi alors proposé le téléchargement du livret dans le format PDF.

‘Kisses On The Bottom’

Paul’s tribute to personal favourites & two new self penned compositions out February 6th/7th.

On December 19^th 2011 Paul announced that February 2012 would see the release of his brand new studio album. Scores of fans then streamed the new original track ‘My Valentine’, many assuming it would be the new record’s title track. While a few Twitter hints have been dropped and rumours have run rampant, Paul puts an end to speculation today, confirming that the album will indeed be titled ‘Kisses On The Bottom’.

Paul has apparently had some fun with his choice of album title—while causing some confusion amongst those who have historically subjected his every move to microscopic scrutiny (with many fixating on an anatomical interpretation !). The phrase ‘Kisses On The Bottom,’ however, actually comes from the album’s opener ‘I’m Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter’. Originally made a big hit by Fats Waller in 1935, the song opens with the lines ‘I’m gonna sit right down and write myself a letter and make believe it came from you. I’m gonna write words oh so sweet. They’re gonna knock me off of my feet. A lot of kisses on the bottom , I’ll be glad I got ‘em’.

‘Kisses On The Bottom’ is a collection of standards Paul grew up listening to in his childhood as well as the two new McCartney compositions ‘My Valentine’ and ‘Only Our Hearts’. With the help of Grammy Award-winning producer Tommy LiPuma and Diana Krall and her band—as well as guest appearances from Eric Clapton and Stevie Wonder, McCartney’s new album is a deeply personal journey through classic American compositions that, in some cases, a young Paul first heard his father perform on piano at home. The full tracklisting reveals that Paul has been both reverent and adventurous in his song choices.

The album was recorded at the legendary Capitol Studios in Los Angeles, New York and London throughout 2011. It also features guest musicians Eric Clapton and Stevie Wonder, respectively, on the original compositions ‘My Valentine’ and ‘Only Our Hearts’. Eric also appears on the track ‘Get Yourself Another Fool’.

The album artwork concept was conceived by Jonathan Schofield (Visual Director at Stella McCartney) and designed by Matthew Cooper (who has worked with artists such as Arctic Monkeys and Franz Ferdinand). Paul was photographed by his daughter Mary McCartney for the album sleeve.
